There’s something magnetic about an artist who doesn’t just create music—they use it to shift the atmosphere. Laura Cheadle + The Girls are that kind of band. Based in Philadelphia, this all-girl powerhouse brings a vibrant mix of Pop, Soul, and Rock to every performance, using their platform to advocate for women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and the power of joyful self-expression.

Laura Cheadle + The Girls

With an impressive résumé that includes sharing stages with legends like The Jonas Brothers and John Oates, Laura Cheadle is no stranger to big moments. But now, with her all-girl band—including her wife, Michelle—Laura is stepping into a new era, rooted in purpose, passion, and bold authenticity.

In this exclusive feature, Laura opens up about her journey, the inspiration behind her lyrics, and how she continues to make music that heals, uplifts, and empowers. This isn’t just a story about an artist—it’s a story about impact, identity, and leading with love.

What’s a moment in your life that completely changed the way you approach music?

I think forming my new girl band has given me such a platform to perform joyful music while advocating for women and the LGBTQ+ community. I love making a difference through music, but also doing it in a happy way. You can never fight hate with hate because love conquers all!

When you’re alone, what kind of music do you listen to that might surprise your fans?

Classical, jazz, Bossa Nova!

Was there ever a time you considered quitting music? What pulled you back in?

There were points early on in my career that I was trying to navigate through, but I’ve always had that purpose and drive to make a difference through music in the back of my mind.

What’s a lyric you’ve written that still gives you chills—and why?

“I felt like my mind was in trouble, and my soul was closing. You wrapped me right up in that bubble and told me baby, it’s time for life to begin’ I wrote this about having anxiety and finding that person that calms you down.  This is my debut single with Laura Cheadle + The Girls called “Air Gets Tight,” which was recently released.

How do you handle the pressure to constantly perform and stay relevant in such a fast-paced industry?

I think having a platform and drive to advocate helps to kind of give you a purpose of what you represent. I look at it now as more of changing the world through joy. The response has been amazing, and we are currently on a tour across the country!

What’s one song you wish you wrote and what would you have done differently with it?

I don’t think I can answer this because art is so special to every individual person. I absolutely love seeing other artists express themselves and make songs their own!

If your discography told a story, what would the plot be?

Finding yourself and navigating through crazy relationships!

How do you know when a song is “finished”? Or is it never really done?

I think when the earworm of the song finally leaves my brain for a brief moment, it has finished!

What’s one misconception people have about you as an artist?

I’m pretty sure I/we put everything out there 🙂

If you could create your dream collaboration—alive or not—who would it be and what would the song sound like?

Alabama Shakes! We would LOVE to tour with them. Our vibes would go so well together.  The song would sound soulful and full off rock and roll.
