What’s a moment in your life that completely changed the way you approach music?
The loss of my grandmother caused me to make every move I make intentional.
When you’re alone, what kind of music do you listen to that might surprise your fans?
Rap and alternative rock.
Was there ever a time you considered quitting music? What pulled you back in?
There are plenty of times when I thought about quitting music and to just go get my degree instead. I am now currently earning my second master’s degree, and there is still no other person or artist like me or doing anything remotely close to what I am doing. I am an icon pioneer and I deserve for the whole world to know about me.
What’s a lyric you’ve written that still gives you chills—and why?
“I want what you do.”
How do you handle the pressure to constantly perform and stay relevant in such a fast-paced industry?
The only pressure I have is to make every move intentional and to reach the masses and audience that I would like.
What’s one song you wish you wrote and what would you have done differently with it?
I really love this question, I would have to say “Caught Out There” by Kelis or “Toxic” by Britney.
If your discography told a story, what would the plot be?
The introduction to the world of the most innovative popstar they have ever met in their entire lives. This woman has lived more lives than people twice her age, and all her creations are innovative and selfless. This is the kind of woman you would want your daughter to grow up and be like, not the stripper holes that y’all constantly promote every day. That decides to release 20 million makeup lines, fashion, boutiques, or skin care lines, like we need more of those. I am actually a trailblazer in my community in the wellness community and criminal justice, and I am making strides in music. No one has ever done anything that I am doing. I own my own tea company. I own the only seamoss iced tea on walmart.com. No other artist has TN music; each song Title on my album comes with its own tea, and trust me, all my creations have been copied and trademarked. There is no other icon like me, but America will be slow to catch on like usual.
How do you know when a song is “finished”? Or is it never really done?
When you have nothing else left to say.
What’s one misconception people have about you as an artist?
Other than, I’m the greatest they have ever seen, and I’m an icon. I’m a unicorn, all the above. I’m not sure, I don’t care what people think much. No one is on my level.
If you could create your dream collaboration—alive or not—who would it be and what would the song sound like?
My dream collaborations will consist of Britney Spears, Kelis, Janet Jackson, Taylor, Swift, Amy Winehouse, and Mariah Carey, as these women, including Aaliyah, have extremely influence my style of writing and love for music of course, I would love to work with producers such as Pharrell, Mark Ronson or even Calvin Harris.
